Purpose
The purpose of this assignment is to create a public service announcement in order to serve your community by raising awareness of an issue, initiating a new behavior or attitude, or changing a behavior or attitude. This assignment will allow you the chance to put all your newly gained rhetorical savvy into practice! You will also manage your own writing process by beginning to use what you have learned about the writing process.

You will choose your audience.
Writing Prompt
This assignment consists of two parts and one extra part for those working collaboratively:
1. A public service announcement
a. From within your community, find a nonprofit group or organization that offers information or services that could be of benefit to the public and develop a public service message.
b. Choose from the following forms of public service messages:
i. Print advertisements for magazines, newspapers, posters or billboards
ii. Brochures
iii. Storyboards and scripts for television commercials
iv. Websites
2. A “pitch” letter introducing your work to your client.
3. Extra part for those working collaboratively: A rhetorical analysis of your PSA
a. This part of the assignment requires each of you to separately discuss the HOW and WHY of your PSA. How are you attempting to persuade your audience, and why did you choose the method(s) you chose.
b. Be sure to discuss the rhetorical strategies you used.
c. The analysis should be between 1 ½ to two full pages long.
Technical Details
1. Include a cover page with your name, the date, the class, and the assignment name. Use Times New Roman 12 pt. font.
2. Your “pitch” letter should be printed in Times New Roman 12 pt. font. This is a professional letter you will use to convince your client to use your PSA.
3. The extra credit rhetorical analysis should be between 1 ½ to two full pages long and be printed in Times New Roman 12 pt. font.
