Proposal Sequence

This is the main assignment.  The buttons above will direct you to the other components in the assignment sequence.

WRD 102
Writing Project 4—Proposal
Rough Draft Due Wednesday, October 29
Final Revision Due Monday, November 3

Purpose
The purpose of this assignment is to write a proposal that suggests a fresh way to solve a problem.  Your proposal may take the form of a letter requesting funding or other support for a program, a letter requesting that an individual or a group consider a proposed solution, or an editorial or article that proposes a solution to a specific problem.

Audience
You must target a specific audience and use audience appropriate language and persuasive arguments.

Writing Prompt
Based on the work you have already completed, create a proposal that addresses a specific audience, speaks to a specific problem, offers a specific solution, and suggests specific benefits to the proposed audience.

Technical Details
Consider the technical details carefully, as they should be chosen for specific audiences.  For example, using comic sans font in a letter to the President of DePaul would be a bad rhetorical move.  Part of the project grade will be based on the following criteria:
1. Project should be four full to five full pages long.
2. Include a cover page with your name, the date, the class, and the assignment name.  Do not include this page in the page count.
3. Use an audience appropriate font, in an appropriate size.
4. Format the margins as appropriate for your audience.
5. If using graphs, photos, or any other visuals, include them in an “Appendix” at the end of the paper.  Include this page in the page count.
6. If using information gleaned from outside sources (and you should most definitely be using outside sources), be sure to include a “Works Cited” page after the “Appendix.”  Do not include this page in the page count.  If you are familiar with MLA style citations, feel free to use in to format this page.  If you do not know how to do this, then just include the pertinent information on the “Works Cited” page.  You’ll learn how to do this in WRD 103 next quarter!
