“Painting is silent poetry,
and poetry is painting with the gift of speech.”
—Simonides
I began silk painting several years ago on a whim. Moving far beyond a simple hobby, I have developed a passion for creating fantastical colorscapes using a watercolor technique that works with the shimmer and luster of the silk to enhance its natural properties. While creating, I play music—I close my eyes, feel the sound-echoes on my spirit, and begin to paint. To renew my passion and reach to deeper creative depths, I also experiment with dance, music, creative writing, metalwork, sculpture, photography, and collage.
In everyday life, I try to look for the beauty all around me. From the iridescent sheen in the wings of a dragonfly, to the varying shades of violet in a sunset, the peaceful calm in the subtle palette of a bird’s feather, and the hazy light of a full moon in an inky sky. I look at the world through a poet’s eyes and attempt to visually convey that perspective. My goal is to encourage others to see what I see: the signature of the Divine in the beauty that surrounds us.
